Closing the lawn after large events or heavy rain is a necessary measure to ensure it remains healthy and available for public use for the entire season. The Commons staff monitors the condition of the lawn daily and will post signs if it will be closed to rest.
Water from the splash pad collects in a large underground tank and is cycled into the park’s irrigation system. Unless the tank were to reach capacity (which is unlikely), no water from the splash pad is wasted.
The on switch works best when tapped by a bare hand or foot.
There are six temporary restroom units on the East Block of The Commons near Park Avenue. Two of the units are ADA accessible.
Operating hours of the restrooms vary by season. They may also be locked by our park hosts if units are in need of maintenance.
Permanent restroom facilities may be built in the future.
Dogs are welcome at The Commons. They must be leashed at all times, and owners must direct their dogs to use the dedicated Dog Relief Area, a small gravel area located on Park Avenue near 5th St. S. Owners are responsible to pick up after their pet. Dog relief is not permitted on any of the lawns.
In accordance with City policies at its properties, The Commons is smoke-free. Tobacco products are prohibited at The Commons, including cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and chewing tobacco. This provides a more pleasant and cleaner environment for everyone. Park hosts can direct users to nearby, offsite locations where tobacco use is permitted.
Park hosts collect lost items and retain them for a period of one month. Please contact a park host or call 612-339-0910 with your inquiry.
Park hosts oversee The Commons during daytime hours. A private security company monitors the park at night when the park is closed to the public.
Mirroring other City and MPRB public space guidelines, The Commons is closed to recreational use between the hours of 10pm and 6am. After hours, the public is permitted to travel through The Commons as a path to another destination, but not to linger within the park.
